Imponderable

My aunt lent me a book, "Imponderable" by readers' digest which my cousin had ordered it by mistake.
It's a very interesting book.

Why aren't shoes laced up when you try them on in shops?
We learnt how to tie our shoes when we were four. But no one ever taught us how to lace up a shoe from scratch. Our assumption was that this shoe store practice was simply to annoy and humiliate us, but indeed, the experts we consulted named four reasons for leaving shoelaces unlaced;
1. Lacing shoes is labour-intensive and can't be done my machine. Therefore, it would an added expanse.
2. Different costumers have speacial preferences in lacing techniques. Shoe consultant and historian William A Rossi told us that 'shoes are left unlaced to allow the buyer to choose his or her own lacing 'stye'.
3. It allows costumers to try on shoes with easy entry. Some buyers interpret any difficulty in putting on a shoe as indicating that the shoe is too small.
4. Perhaps the most importantcondsidereation is psychological. Florheim's NB Albert indicates that, subliminally, the unlaced shoe is 'brand new'. Owner of an Anthlete's Foot store in New York reports that a few costumeres refuse to buy any shoes that are already laced. After all, who knows who's been trying on the shoes before you?

Uncle says its good for me casue it contains alot of general knowledge stuff for me :D
